Preventing the Sustainability Divide: Engineers as Leaders in Community Outreach
In the last year, the words "sustainability", "green", and "environmentally-friendly" have grown in popularity. As the sustainability movement continues to gain momentum, minority and low-income communities are at risk of being left behind thus creating a "sustainability divide". NSBE Technical Professionals have the knowledge and experience to assist these communities with developing technical solutions to empower them to be part of the sustainability movement. Engineers as community leaders have the opportunity to "positively impact the community."

You have the knowledge to share with the community. Do you have the personal skills to communicate that knowledge? Do you know how to reach the community you are trying to impact? Do you know how to get the community to "think outside of the box"?

This workshop will explore strategies for engineers to be leaders and trusted voices in their communities. We will focus on different methods of public outreach, engagement, and communication.
